Former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has pointed the finger at key Liverpool players Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk for the team’s recent struggles.
The Reds are currently on a four-game losing streak in the league, a slump Rooney largely attributes to a lack of leadership from the senior players.
He specifically highlighted Salah’s dip in form as a “big concern.”Following their 3-2 defeat at Brentford, Liverpool sits seventh in the table, seven points adrift of leaders Arsenal.Rooney criticized the duo despite their recent contract extensions, stating:
“Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, they’ve signed new deals but I don’t think they’ve really led that team this season… I think body language tells you a lot, and I think we’re seeing slightly different body language from the two of them. They are the top two players in that team and if their body language is not right, that affects everyone else.”In Rooney’s view, the poor attitude and lack of leadership shown by Salah and Van Dijk are negatively impacting the entire squad, something he believes should be a major worry for the club’s fans and manager.
