Former Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, has credited Atalanta manager, Gian Piero Gasperini, for Ademola Lookman’s remarkable rise this year. Peseiro believes that Gasperini’s tactical approach, which grants Lookman significant freedom on the pitch, has been instrumental in unlocking the winger’s full potential.
In an interview with Sportitalia, Peseiro stated, “I think giving Lookman the freedom to move around has allowed him to show his quality, both in terms of decision-making and execution.”
He further emphasized the positive impact of the club environment and Gasperini’s coaching on Lookman’s growth as a player in all aspects.
Lookman’s impact has been undeniable, as evidenced by his recent crowning as the African Footballer of the Year.
His contributions have not only propelled Atalanta to significant success, including a triumphant UEFA Europa League campaign, but have also played a crucial role in Nigeria’s strong showing at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Peseiro acknowledged that Lookman’s victory is well-deserved, stating, “I think Lookman’s victory is deserved given his performances both for Atalanta, his club and for his country, Nigeria.”
