Morocco manager Walid Regragui has explained that Brahim Diaz’s late penalty miss against Senegal in the 2025 AFCON final was the result of the player being “disturbed.”
With the trophy on the line, the Real Madrid star had the opportunity to win it for the host nation with the final kick.
However, after a chaotic 17-minute delay caused by protests, Diaz’s attempted “Panenka” was easily gathered by Edouard Mendy.
While some speculated the miss was intentional due to the penalty’s controversial nature, Regragui pointed to the long wait as the primary factor.
“He had a lot of time before taking the penalty which must have disturbed him,” Regragui told reporters.
“But we can’t change what happened. That is how he chose to take the penalty. We need to look forward now.”
