Victor Osimhen, the Super Eagles’ assistant captain, has opened up about the strikers who have shaped his career with the national team.
While the Galatasaray star is on the brink of history sitting just two goals shy of Rashidi Yekini’s all-time record of 37 goals he admitted he never actually saw the legendary forward in action.
Speaking to CBS Sports Golazo, Osimhen shared:“Although I didn’t watch Rashidi Yekini in blessed memory. But he’s done something that has inspired a lot of people, which inspires me.”
Instead, Osimhen pointed toward more contemporary figures as his primary sources of motivation. “Also, like Odion Ighalo, whom I draw a lot of inspiration from, as well as Obafemi Martins,” he noted.
Reflecting on the possibility of becoming Nigeria’s all-time leading scorer, he added: “So for me, it would be up there on the verge of trying to break Yekini’s record.
It’s something I will never forget in my life. It’s something I will hold on higher esteem, it’s an honour for me.”
