Liverpool manager Arne Slot admitted the team was entirely responsible for their failure to hold onto the lead in Saturday’s thrilling 3-3 Premier League draw against Leeds United.
The Reds initially looked comfortable, taking a two-goal advantage at Elland Road courtesy of a Hugo Ekitike brace. However, the home side rallied, with goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Anton Stach leveling the score.
Dominik Szoboszlai put Liverpool ahead again, but Ao Tanaka delivered a late blow from a set-piece deep into stoppage time to earn a point for Leeds.
Speaking post-match, Slot was blunt about the defensive lapses. “We concede these chances. That is part of our season. But the ones to blame are us,” he stated.
He highlighted the crucial moments, noting, “So 2-1, then maybe their first chance of the game led to 2-2. We showed the mentality to go 3-2 up… And then a set-piece comes in nine minutes of extra time and they score.”
