Graham Arnold, head coach of the Iraqi national team, has officially petitioned FIFA to delay their upcoming World Cup play-off scheduled for March 31 in Monterrey.
Citing severe travel disruptions caused by the closure of Iraqi airspace and escalating regional tensions involving the U.S., Israel, and Iran, Arnold warned that the current situation prevents him from assembling his full squad.
“We need our best team for the country’s biggest game in 40 years,” Arnold stated, noting that relying exclusively on expatriate players would jeopardize their chances.
The Iraqi Football Federation is now awaiting a response from FIFA regarding a potential rescheduling.
