Harry Kane Explains Why Major Trophies Are Necessary for Him and Haaland to Win Ballon d’Or.

Bayern Munich striker and England captain, Harry Kane, has tempered expectations around his potential Ballon d’Or candidacy, insisting that individual performance is secondary to major team silverware.

Speaking to the UK Mirror, Kane openly acknowledged the difficulty of winning the prestigious award without lifting the most coveted trophies in football.

“I could score 100 goals this season but if I don’t win the Champions League or the World Cup, you’re probably not going to win the Ballon d’Or,” Kane said.

He noted that the same high standard applies to other top players like Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, emphasizing: “You have to be winning those major trophies.

“Kane’s comments come despite his sensational form this season, which has seen him tally 13 Bundesliga and five Champions League goals, positioning him as an early favourite for the award.

Meanwhile, his national team, the Three Lions, have successfully and flawlessly qualified for the 2026 World Cup.
