Emmanuel Petit, a former Barcelona midfielder, has strongly advised Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold against joining Real Madrid, despite persistent transfer links.
Alexander-Arnold is tipped for a move to the Spanish capital once his contract with Liverpool expires at the end of the season. However, Petit insists the England international should reconsider.
The Frenchman warned that the expectations at the Santiago Bernabéu are brutal, recalling his own experience at Barcelona: “They told me, forget what you’ve done so far… you have to write history with us.
“Petit’s central caution revolves around the defender’s primary role. “If Trent does what he does defensively at Real Madrid, they will kill him,” he stated.
He added that even scoring goals or providing assists would not save him from the scrutiny of the demanding fans and club hierarchy. “After two, three games, they will kill him. If I was Trent Alexander-Arnold, I would think about it twice.”
