Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel is cautiously optimistic that the Red Devils can build on their recent momentum under Ruben Amorim.
After a disastrous 15th-place finish last term and a shock Carabao Cup exit to Grimsby Town, United are currently sixth—just three points shy of the Champions League spots.
Following a crucial win over Newcastle, Schmeichel predicts a fifth or sixth-place finish, noting that mid-season signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo should solidify their standing.
“If fifth place secures Champions League football, I’d be very happy,” Schmeichel told ViaPlay.However, former Liverpool star Jan Molby was less convinced, suggesting United’s inconsistency could see them finish anywhere between fifth and tenth.
Molby noted that the team remains in a cycle of “one step forward, one step back.”
