Algerian forward Mohamed Amoura has issued a public apology following backlash for mocking a Congolese fan during their AFCON Round of 16 victory.
The supporter was dressed as Patrice Lumumba, the iconic Congolese revolutionary leader.Despite Algeria’s 1–0 win secured by Adel Boulbina the post-match celebrations were marred by Amoura’s behavior.
Facing widespread criticism, the Wolfsburg player took to Instagram to clarify that he did not recognize the significance of the fan’s attire.
Amoura stated the gesture was intended as a “good-spirited joke” without malice, emphasizing his respect for the Congolese people and wishing their team success in future World Cup qualifiers.
