The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has ignited a firestorm by stripping Senegal of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title, two months after the final against hosts Morocco.
The decision, based on a brief walk-off by the Teranga Lions to protest a late penalty, has been described as “truly bizarre” by football expert Solace Chukwu.
Speaking to DAILY POST, Chukwu, author of ‘Elusive’, labeled the verdict “surreal” and “misguided,” noting that it came “out of the blue.”
He raised concerns over the two-month delay and the fact that the decision-making body lacked a full complement of members.
According to Chukwu, the ruling “encourages chicanery and gamesmanship” and suggests a perception that CAF is overly beholden to Morocco.
