Former Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has opened up about his failed attempt to bring Martín Zubimendi to Catalonia.
Speaking to La Vanguardia, Xavi confirmed that he identified the Spaniard as the “perfect” successor to Sergio Busquets during the player’s time at Real Sociedad.
However, despite Xavi’s pleas, the Barça board blocked the move due to financial constraints, opting for a cheaper alternative instead.
Zubimendi eventually made the switch to North London last year, where he has since become a cornerstone of Mikel Arteta’s midfield.
