Arsenal legend David Seaman has criticized manager Mikel Arteta for making four substitutions at once during Sunday’s 3-2 defeat to Manchester United.
Trailing 2-1 in the 58th minute, Arteta swapped Martin Ødegaard, Martin Zubimendi, Gabriel Jesus, and Ben White for Eberechi Eze, Mikel Merino, Viktor Gyokeres, and Piero Hincapie.
Why Seaman Was Unhappy:Loss of Rhythm: Seaman called the move a “knee-jerk reaction” that disrupted the team’s momentum.
Removing the Captain: He noted that taking off playmaker Martin Ødegaard “changed everything” and forced Declan Rice to play further back.
Crowd Tension: The massive change created a nervous atmosphere in the stadium.”I was shocked,” Seaman told Premier League Productions. “You are taking off your captain… and bringing four on really disrupts the team.”
