Following Nigeria’s victory over Egypt in the AFCON third-place playoff on Saturday, forward Akor Adams declared the Super Eagles the best team of the tournament.
The Sevilla star expressed immense pride in the squad’s performance under Eric Chelle, which saw them secure the bronze medal.
Throughout the competition, the Super Eagles were dominant, winning six of their seven fixtures. Their sole setback came against the hosts, Morocco, in a 4-2 penalty shootout.
En route to the podium, Chelle’s side triumphed over Tanzania, Uganda, Tunisia, Mozambique, Algeria, and Egypt.
Reflecting on the journey, Adams stated: “We are the best team, we came for the gold but we didn’t take it. But we are proud of what we have been able to achieve.”
He also credited the head coach for the team’s growth, adding, “We are all grateful to Eric Chelle for what he has done for us as a group in the last three weeks. We are better people because of Chelle.”
