Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has made a stunning claim, asserting the Premier League club wished for his departure during the summer transfer window.
Fernandes, who was strongly linked with a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia, ultimately chose to remain at Old Trafford. His decision was based on his deep affection for the club and family considerations.
“The club wanted me to go [in the summer], I have that in my head,” Fernandes told Mais Futebol. “I told the directors this, but I think they didn’t have the courage to make that decision.
“The Portuguese star stayed following a conversation with the manager, but he felt a distinct lack of commitment from the club’s hierarchy.
“From the club’s side, I felt a bit like, ‘if you leave, it’s not so bad for us,’” he admitted, expressing profound sadness.
Fernandes voiced his hurt, believing he is a player beyond criticism due to his constant availability, effort, and commitment.
He concluded by lamenting that other players who “don’t value the club as much” were treated differently, a situation that “makes you sad.”
