Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen, is currently facing significant criticism in Turkey amid allegations that he intentionally earned a yellow card to secure a suspension before joining the Nigerian squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Osimhen, who was already on three yellow cards, received a fourth in the 85th minute of Saturday’s Super Lig match against Antalyaspor.
This booking triggers a one-match ban, which he will now serve while away at the AFCON tournament. The controversy is escalating, with Turkish outlet Gazete Gerçek reporting that Osimhen could be referred to the Turkish Football Federation Disciplinary Committee (PFDK) for further investigation.
Under Article 37 of the disciplinary code, which covers players “deliberately receiving a yellow card,” a guilty verdict could result in an additional two-game ban.
If this further sanction is applied, Osimhen could miss up to three league matches upon his return, impacting key fixtures against teams like Kasımpaşa, Trabzonspor, and Gaziantep FK.
