Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has issued a strong warning to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, suggesting their current level of performance is insufficient to win the Premier League title.
Neville’s comments follow Arsenal’s nervy 2-1 victory against Wolves, a match that saw them concede a late equalizer before securing the win via an own goal.
The Match DetailsArsenal took the lead against Wolves when Bukayo Saka’s effort from a corner deflected off goalkeeper Sam Johnstone and into the net.
Wolves appeared to have salvaged a point late on, as Tolu Arokodare headed in a cross from Mateus Mane in the 90th minute. However, Yerson Mosquera’s late own goal ensured Arsenal claimed all three points.
Neville’s WarningSpeaking to NBC Sports, Neville stressed the need for improvement, despite the win.”If you play like that too many times then you won’t win this league,” Neville stated, adding that if he were in the dressing room, he would be telling the players to “Wake up, come on!
We’re going to be in danger if we carry on playing at this level.”He acknowledged that while securing the three points was “vital,” there has been a noticeable “dip for Arsenal in terms of performance.
“The Title Race TightensThe importance of the victory was underlined by the results elsewhere. Manchester City closed the gap to just two points after a convincing 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace.
