Liverpool manager Arne Slot has rejected former Arsenal coach Arsène Wenger’s recent assertion that the summer signing of midfielder Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen has “destroyed” the Reds team.
Wenger’s comments followed a difficult period for Liverpool, where they lost six of seven games before securing recent wins against Aston Villa and Real Madrid.
Ahead of Sunday’s Premier League match against Manchester City, Slot defended the signing, stating that Wirtz requires time to adapt.
“Everyone has a right to his own opinion,” the Dutchman commented. “I think we have five or six very good midfielders… but they need to play more together… Florian needs time to adapt to his teammates; teammates need time to adapt to him.” He noted that Wirtz had recently been deployed on the left wing
