Following Liverpool’s narrow 1-0 UEFA Champions League victory against Real Madrid on Tuesday, head coach Arne Slot was quick to single out two opposing players for exceptional praise.
Despite his side securing the win thanks to a second-half goal from Alexis Mac Allister against Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid, Slot admitted that controlling the threat posed by Vinícius Júnior and Kylian Mbappé was almost impossible.
“You can’t control these two players, neither Mbappé nor Vinícius,” Slot stated in his post-match interview. “Their best chance was when Vinícius passed to Bellingham.
They have very good players across the pitch, and it’s very difficult to completely contain them.”He concluded, “We did the best we could with players like Mbappé and Vinícius.”Liverpool’s attention now turns to the Premier League, where they will face Manchester City this weekend.
