While Liverpool finally returned to winning ways with a 2-0 defeat of Aston Villa—ending a dismal four-game Premier League losing streak—former captain Steven Gerrard was quick to temper the celebrations.
Goals from Mohamed Salah and Ryan Gravenberch were certainly a relief for manager Arne Slot, but Gerrard stressed on TNT Sports that the victory is just a starting point.
“He’s handled it well, it’s a great win so he deserves a lot of credit for that but they come thick and fast,” Gerrard noted, urging Slot’s men to “park that up and go for the next prizes.”
The champions face a grueling stretch before the international break, with high-stakes fixtures against Real Madrid and Manchester City looming, explaining Gerrard’s pointed remark: “In two days’ time, the pressure will build again because he will be expected to beat Real Madrid.”
