Former Manchester City and Argentina defender Pablo Zabaleta has voiced his support for Lionel Messi to finish his legendary career at Barcelona.
Speaking to Flashscore, Zabaleta addressed the persistent rumors surrounding a potential return to Catalonia, which have intensified since Joan Laporta’s re-election as club president.
Messi’s journey since his emotional 2021 departure from the Camp Nou has taken him through Paris Saint-Germain and eventually to Inter Miami in 2023.
While Zabaleta acknowledges that Messi’s move to MLS was about more than just the pitch—noting that “Miami is a wonderful place to raise a family”—he hasn’t ruled out a final chapter in Spain.
“There’s been so much talk about that, especially with the presidential elections at the club,” Zabaleta remarked.
Reflecting on Messi’s success in the States, including an MLS Cup win, he added: “As for a return to Barcelona – why not? A last dance? I’d love to see it.”
