Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has revealed the total support of president Florentino Perez during his Les Bleus controversy.

Benzema hasn't been considered for France since before Euro2016 after becoming embroiled in an alleged blackmail scandal.

But he revealed to Vanity Fair Perez stood by him throughout the row.

Benzema said: “It was a dream to meet someone like him. He's very calm and very friendly. He asked me if I wanted to play for Real Madrid and I said yes. I gave him my word. And that's how we've always been.

"He is behind me in the good times and the bad times. He is the club president, but to me he is also like a member of my family. That's how I feel. When the Valbuena thing happened, after spending the night in a cell I was really down when I got back to Madrid. Florentino was waiting for at Valdebebas and he was very kind to me."

On a national team recall, Benzema added: "I'm 30 years old and I've got two kids. I'm happy here. If they need me, they know where to find me."
